ACL Rehabilitation

What is ACL Rehabilitation?

An ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury involves a tear or sprain of one of the key ligaments stabilizing the knee, often caused by sudden twisting, pivoting, or impact during sports or activity. Symptoms include pain, swelling, instability, and difficulty bearing weight. In some cases surgery is not required, either way they need some help in the recovery journey.

Rehabilitation Process: We focus on restoring knee stability, strength, and function. The process typically includes:

  • Acute Phase: Reducing pain and swelling, gentle range-of-motion exercises. This is either post injury or post-op
  • Strengthening Phase: Targeted exercises for quadriceps, hamstrings, and hip muscles to support knee stability.
  • Balance and Proprioception: Activities to retrain coordination and prevent re-injury.
  • Functional Training: Gradual return to sport-specific or daily activities.
  • Long-Term Maintenance: Ongoing strength, flexibility, and conditioning to protect the knee.

We will always use the VALD assessment tools to monitor progress with data to maintain motivation as this is a long recovery based on surgical protocols.
